Making a lidded-jar truly requires making two, three, and sometimes four distinct pottery pieces. The highly detailed lids, occasional handles, and added sculpted details can be more challenging than making the jar itself.
Significantly more time is required to complete these pieces. I love the challenge of creating lidded jars, as it pairs perfectly with my artistic goal to create eye-catching and unique “Works-of-Clay”.
Many of these pieces can be held in your hand, while larger jars may require two. To provide you with a rough idea of scale, I frequently include pictures of me holding the piece in my hand.
I deploy the name of Portuguese born Brazilian entertainer "Carmen Miranda" as an analogous reference to describe my signature lid designs (some would describe as unorthodox). Relative to the jar, these lids are disproportional in size. These Carmen Miranda designs are highly detailed and brightly colored. Frequently these lids require as much Studio time as the jar itself.
A true labor of love.
